The following Winter Storm Watch has been issued today: Snowfall warning for Okotoks, High River & Claresholm (upgraded from winter storm watch)
Heavy snow for southern Alberta continues until Wednesday.

An intense weather system is producing heavy snow over Claresholm, Cardston and Crowsnest Pass regions this morning. Amounts near 10 centimetres have been reported overnight. This system is very slow moving and will continue to intensify today and tonight. Another 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is forecast for today in the Crowsnest Pass and Cardston regions as well as the southern part of the Okotoks region including Claresholm. Tonight the snow will spread eastward into the southern Lethbridge region including Milk River and the Cypress Hills region. Heavy snow will continue to fall across southern Alberta through Tuesday. Another 10 to 20 centimetres is expected tonight and Tuesday with up to 30 centimetres in the foothills. As well, strong northerly winds developing on Tuesday will produce poor visibilities in blowing snow at times. Snow will continue into Wednesday.

Most of the snow has now melted, but today the sky was pale and snowy. It was +4 first thing and there was a strong wind. Rain and snow have been forecast for next 3 days. The day did brighten up, but it didn't warm up much. By noon it was snowing and windy which continued into the evening.

There was a weather warning today in Okotoks, High River & claresholm: A band of snow that brought more than 10 centimetres of snow to the Rocky Mountain House region and the Nordegg region earlier today has now moved into Calgary. After initially melting on contact with the warm ground some of the snow is starting to accumulate. 5 to 10 centimetres of snow is likely in the Calgary area before the system moves south overnight.

The largest snowfall amounts will be along the foothills where temperatures are cooler. The system will move out of these regions this evening.
