It is hard to believe now, but there is a winter storm warning in place for today.

By mid-day the wind had really picked up, it had clouded over and turned much colder. By around 10pm it was snowing.

Winter storm warning for Okotoks, High River & Claresholm
Heavy snow and blowing snow expected tonight and early Sunday.

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions...Listen for updated statements.

An intense pacific low pressure system will develop in southern Alberta and Montana today. This system will at first produce showers this afternoon. As the low pressure system intensifies increasing northeasterly winds will develop and bring in colder air. Precipitation will then turn to snow and become heavy at times this evening. Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres can be expected in some localities by Sunday morning. In addition strong northeasterly winds will develop producing blowing snow and reduced visibilities.

This winter storm can produce poor travelling conditions. Persons in or near these areas should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and listen for updated warnings.
