Days shovelled snow from drive (20)

It was a bright start to the day, with just a little bit of light cloud cover. It was warm and +15 at 8am.

By mid morning the clouds had started to get heavier and by noon the lightning had started and by 1pm it had started to rain heavily. The storm started a little earlier in Okotoks, at around 11.30am. It probably rained for about an hour heavily and then on and off during the afternoon.

We currently have a thunder storm and rainfall warning in place for Okotoks, High River & Claresholm.

Warm and humid conditions combined with an upper level disturbance are creating a favourable environment for thunderstorm development over southeast Alberta this afternoon. Some of these storms may become severe and produce large hail, heavy downpours and strong winds.

A slow moving band of rain and thunderstorms will persist along the southern foothills today. General amounts of 50 to 80 mm of rain can be expected by tonight however some areas may see greater amounts in thunderstorms.
